Demonstrating your impact using Google Maps

Tim Partridge, Product Marketing Manager, Google UK

Digital Revolution event: Tim Partridge

Tim offered some great advice for anyone wanting to take a step beyond just embedding a map in their blog or website. The presentation covered:

  • How Google Maps works
  • How to create a layer on Google Maps with MapMaker
  • How to embed a map in your site and then customise it

Using a recent and very inventive use of Google Maps by Charity Water to chart relief for the Haiti disaster, Tim demonstrated the way this tool can be customised for more than just showing people where you’re based. It’s a collaborative process which other users can add to, allowing images to be used in information panels and utilising a range of desktop tourism potential from live webcams to layer overlays with loads of useful information.
