A mobile friendly site uses the same tools and general principles as an easy-to-find site on the desktop
-
Always start with your users
What keywords do people use? What is their location? How does your content match a user's query? Remember Google ranks pages not websites.
-
Think about devices
Traditional phones need cHTML, WML, WAP etc - are you going to cater for this market? Smartphones can render desktop pages using HTML5. And don't forget, the tablet market (iPad etc) is growing fast!
-
Googlebot-Mobile
This crawls the mobile internet in the same way as the Googlebot, but it is important to remember that smaller, less complex pages are better for mobile, and that video is not always supported (with the exception of YouTube)
-
URL structure
Some sites have different URLS depending on browser (wap.example.com, m.example.com) - this is not necessary and makes no difference to the way Google indexes your site
